A gift from a friend, and what a gift it was! Equally gorgeous and incredibly functional, this work of art is truly a treasure in the hand. Everything about it sings quality: the feel of it, the materials used, the meticulous craftsmanship, the mechanics of the moveable parts, the versatility of the changeable pads. Far superior to other capos I have used, and wide enough to effectively fit across the neck of my nylon string classical acoustic guitar, it is a fabulous capo that will no doubt bring joy for many years to come!
I got the Hawaiian Koa and Pearl Cross design in gold to use with my Taylor guitars that I play in the church band. It looks and works great with my GS Mini Koa guitar and my 714ce that has gold tuners. Works as advertised, less tuning required when moving the capo around. I will order more Thalia capos as gifts.
I got the Thalia "The Tree" Diamond Mop capo in black and installed the high tension fretpad for use with my Taylor 362ce 12 string. That guitar comes with a black headstock, black tuners, and ebony fretboard, so the black Diamond Mop looks perfect. And the high tension fretpad really helps keep the 12 string in tune when I move it up and down the neck. The Thalia capo looks and sounds great on my Taylor 12 string.
Having read some really positive reviews on Thalia products and being in the market for a really top quality capo having been dissatisfied with some of their competitors products I checked out their website and fell in love with this model - black burnished metal and White DragonScale - truly a thing of beauty. Opted for the slow mail route from the US to UK which turned out to be surprisingly fast and was soon unwrapping the package to great delight. I do have a small number of guitars so selecting an appropriate fretpad from the plethora of pads supplied has been an enjoyable pastime that has seen me spend a bit of time with one or two of my more neglected instruments - an added bonus! Aside from the selection of fretpads and the solid box there is a little silk bag to keep it in, a sticker, and a plectrum. You can't fault the package.
As for the kit itself it is a joy to use. Easy to one hand on or off it's nigh impossible to find a position where any of the strings are dead or buzz almost from fret to fret which makes quick changes easy. Placed centrally the right fretpad gives even pressure and tunings stay spot even when the capo is well up the neck. I play a number of different tunings including CGCGCD and CFCCGD where strings are very slack and have no problems. Open strings ring clear as a bell with no loss of tone. I think I prefer the harder High Tension Rubber for the tone but either works fine.
I really can't recommend this product highly enough. Worth every penny, this truly is a top piece of equipment.
To achieve a perfect fit, the Thalia Capo comes with multiple interchangable fretpads so that you can match the fretboard radius of your specific instrument. The following table lists common fretboard radii used by major manufacturer. If you do not find your specific brand and model below you can Google your guitar make/model plus the words "fretboard radius"; if that doesn't work you can use the manual method which is described here
Please Note: 12-String & 8-String Guitars should use our High Tension OctaveTouch fretpads to get the best performance. Standard Tension and High Tension Rubber fretpads are included with every capo. Our Teflon fretpads will likely not work on instruments with octave strings. size chart guide fret board
